The Old Town North Arts & Cultural District in Old Town North comes to life on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 11:00am to 2:00pm as the Old Town North Alliance hosts the 3rd Annual “Chalk-A-Block.”
Chalk artists will transform the interior drive at the new TideLock development (1055 N. Fairfax St.) into an expansive canvas. Live music will fill the air from local favorites The Okays. Local artisans and makers organized by Made in ALX will be on hand to showcase their works. Old Town North restaurants Jula’s on the Potomac, Hank’s Oyster Bar, and Royal Restaurant will have food & beverage offerings for sale, plus a special appearance from Dream Chaser’s Coffee!.
This year’s event will feature a judging panel including Mayor Alyia Gaskins and Art League Executive Director Suzanne Bethel. The judging panel will select a “Best in Show” recipient and the Community will have the opportunity to vote on a “People’s Choice” Award.
The results of the community vote to select an artist to develop banner designs for the Old Town North Arts & Cultural District will be announced between 1pm and 2pm! Cast your vote by noon on Saturday, September 19th!
“Chalk-A-Block” will offer fun for all ages: there will be designated areas where kids (and adults!) can join in and make chalk art of their own.
“Chalk-A-Block” is free to attend. Parking is available on surrounding streets; follow local signage. TideLock is located right on the Mount Vernon Trail so coming by bike is a great option too!
