The Art League Financing Approved

Tuesday evening, the Alexandria City Council approved an agreement between the City, the Industrial Development Authority, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and The Art League (TAL) to help finance TAL’s new classroom studios at 1201 North Royal Street. TAL announced that the project will be finalized by late March.

This will be the first implementation of the Old Town North Arts and Cultural District adopted by the City in April 2018. It will be located in the new Muse residential development.

“We offer special thanks to the Alexandria City Council, the IDA, and the whole team at Alexandria Economic Development Partnership for their amazing support and for helping us realize the next step in our dream of staying in our hometown. We’re so very grateful to Alexandria and the whole Art League community,” TAL said in a statement.

TAL also announced the extension of the lease at its Madison Annex - Montgomery Center until September 30, 2024. The extension will allow extra time for TAL’s other new facility, on Slaters Lane, to be completed, allowing for no interruption of classes and other activities.

In addition, TAL is planning relocation of its headquarters to the Torpedo Factory Art Center, creating a three-location “campus” within Alexandria.

The Old Town North Alliance heartily congratulates The Arts League and its leadership on these exciting developments, and thanks everyone involved for their support of this important ground-breaking project in Old Town North.

More information on the relocation efforts is available at https://www.theartleague.org/support/facilities/?mc_cid=556220d72a&mc_eid=3d4de58c1e

and you may also donate to TAL’s community-building projects there.
